What makes a good cup of coffee? Is it the flavor notes or maybe the aroma?
I can tell you right now, it isn’t the favored creamers you find in your grocery store. Having a love for black coffee, the very idea offends me.
The real secret lies in how the coffee makes you feel. In fact, the very place you consume your caffeinated beverage of choice determines how it tastes.
Take Starbucks for example. What made Starbucks so successful? Restaurants had been serving coffee way before they came around. However, what made Starbucks unique is that they ONLY served coffee and their locations had a warm, cozy European coffee house vibe.
Marketing is no different. As a marketing psychologist, I don’t care so much about the technology or medium; I care how it makes you feel and act. In fact, social media could vanish tomorrow and I wouldn’t care. However, knowing the principles guiding human behavior will get you farther than any other study.
One of the greatest examples we see in HISTORY is the creation of games. In fact, games include nearly all the major marketing psychology strategies:
